Community Programs
New Family Buddy Program ( ) - As new families join the Windrush community, the New Family Buddy Program gives each new family a direct connection with an existing Windrush family. New Family Buddies are assigned in the spring after the admission process is complete.

Community Service Program ( ) - An important aspect of Windrush is our commitment to our larger community. Throughout the year Windrush students and families participate in projects that help the elderly, economically disadvantaged, or physically challenged people in our community as well as animals and our environment.

Family Support Network ( ) - Windrush families support each other informally in a multitude of ways. However, when a family goes through a crisis that goes beyond the day-to-day challenges we all face, the WPA has created a more formal mechanism to lend support. The family support network organizes support starting with the individual class and moving on to the greater Windrush community, as appropriate.

Parent Education Forum (Open) - The Parent Education Forum works with other independent schools in the East Bay to bring interesting speakers and panel discussions focused on issues that are common to the Windrush Community. Recent topics have included safety skills for children, diversity, etc. Let us know your ideas for topics or if you know a great speaker on a relevant topic for the Windrush community.

Family to Family Program (Peggy Scott) - The is a WPA's annual holiday gift-giving program to at-risk families in our neighborhood. This program works with social workers at local service agencies to identify families in need in our community. Some of these families are homeless, some are just financially poor. Windrush families then sign up to support these families during the holidays with food baskets and toys.
This year we will probably sponsor families through a different organization than in years past, but participants will be assigned one individual (child or adult) for whom to buy gifts - both practical and fun (blankets and puzzles, coats and games.) Drop-off of wrapped gifts is within 15 min. of school Dec. 15-16. To sign up, please send an email to 6th grade parent Peggy Scott with your name and phone number (and FAMILY TO FAMILY in the subject line). Please be prepared to spend a minimum of $100; families may chip in together to form a team sponsorship as well as classes, advisories, etc. And yes, people outside of the Windrush community who wish to participate are welcome.

Different Learners Support Group ( ) - Do you have a child who has different learning needs? Does your child have ADD/ADHD, a learning disability, or has a hard time with school work, requiring extra support? Do you think your child may be a different learner? Do you have experience raising a "different learner" and want to share your insights? If you are interested in being part of a group of parents who have kids with different learning styles, please join our group. We create the space where you can share your joys, your frustrations, your ideas, your experience, your suggestions about different learning styles. We work together to determine how best support our kids, our teachers, and each other.
